Adults Only!

This tournament is only for adults. All players must be at least 18 years of age. If you are under 18, please do not register for this event. Thank you.

 

Tournament Information:

  • 4 round Swiss tournament.
  • US Chess regular rated. Time control: Game in 95 minutes with a 10-second increment.
  • Only open to adults (18+). No exceptions.
  • Round times: Saturday at 2 pm, Saturday at 6:30 pm, Sunday at 9 am, Sunday at 1 pm
    • Later start on Saturday and earlier finish on Sunday allows players to drive to this tournament who live several hours away.
  • Entry fee: $58 by 3/15, $65 by 3/21, $70 by 3/27, $75 on the day of the tournament.
    • National masters will current ratings over 2200 play for free ($58 entry deducted from prizes). Email josh@dmvchess.com to register for free as a 2200+ rated player.
  • Three Sections: Premier (also FIDE rated), Under 1800, and Under 1400.
  • Note: Players may not play up more than 100 points. A player may use either their live (unpublished) or published rating to qualify for a higher section. Players may also use their FIDE rating to qualify for a higher section. In the event that a player uses their live rating (or FIDE rating) to qualify for a higher section, this rating will also be used for pairings.
  • Forfeit policy: A player who is more than thirty minutes late can be forfeited.
  • PRIZES: $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd in Premier; $100 for 1st in U1800, $100 for 1st in Under 1400; Top senior overall in the tournament (50+) prize of $100 (includes $50 donated to this prize from last year's winner). (Note that the top senior prize is accross all sections and is calculated completely separately from the other prizes. It is possible for a player to win the top senior prize in addition to another prize.)
  • Up to two half-point byes are allowed. Half-point byes can be requested for any round. The deadline to request a half-point bye is prior to the start of round 3.
  • We will have enough chess sets for all players, but clocks will not be provided for everyone. If you have a clock, please bring one.
  • There is plenty of free parking at the playing venue.
