The 10+ annual open tournaments run by MD Chess: Baltimore Open, MD Action Championship, MD Blitz Championship, MD Chess Action (monthly), MD Open, Old Line Open, Washington International (must have FIDE 2100+ for Masters section), & Washington International Blitz. Not applicable: Chesapeake Open (Baltimore Chess), East Coast Open (Baltimore Chess), Potomac Open (Baltimore Chess), UMBC Championship, & UMBC Open.
MD's K-12 State Champions
- The individual & team winners (or co-winners) of HS (9-12) Championship will be the Maryland High-School Chess Champion.
- The highest-rated girl(s) overall in any section will be the Maryland Girl (K-12) Chess Champion.
- The individual & team winners (or co-winners) of MS (6-8) Championship will be the Maryland Middle-School Chess Champion.
- The individual & team winners (or co-winners) of Elementary (4-5) Championship will be the Maryland Elementary-School (4-5) Chess Champion.
- The individual & team winners (or co-winners) of Primary (K-3) Championship will be the Maryland Primary-School (K-3) Chess Champion.
MD's K-12 Representatives to US Chess’s National Invitationals for State Champions at the U.S. Open
- The Individual High-School Champion will receive the MD Chess High-School Chess Champion Stipend of $750 to represent Maryland in the GM Arnold Denker National Tournament of High-School State Champions.
- The Individual Girl Champion will receive the MD Chess Girl Chess Champion Stipend of $750 to represent Maryland in the WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions.
- The Individual Middle-School Champion will receive the MD Chess Middle-School Chess Champion Stipend of $750 to represent Maryland in the Dewain Barber National Tournament of Middle-School State Champions.
- The Individual Elementary-School (4-5) Champion will receive the MD Chess Elementary-School (4-5) Chess Champion Stipend of $750 to represent Maryland in the John D. Rockefeller III National Tournament of Elementary School State Champions.
Part of each entry fee for today’s tournament will be used to help support MD's representatives to US Chess's National Invitationals for State Champions at the U.S. Open. Each of MD's representatives will receive $750 to compete in 1 of the following invitationals:
- John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions
- GM Arnold Denker National Tournament of High School State Champions
- WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions
- Dewain Barber National Tournament of Middle School State Champions
- John D. Rockefeller III National Tournament of Elementary School State Champions
- FM Sunil Weeramantry National Blitz Tournament of State Champions
